This is an absolute STAPLE in my house.

This smoothies is made with plants and totally delicious! The berries give nature’s sweetness. It’s filling but without being too much.

It makes for a perfect breakfast or it’s even great as a snack.

I also love it as a post-workout option!

It is REALLY creamy.

It’s jam-packed with protein, vitamins and antioxidants.

I know that avocado might seem a weird addition for some, but the truth is that the taste isn’t too overpowering at all, but the difference it makes to the texture and nutritional content is just huge.

My husband and I were on holiday and we once went to a plant-based cafe and they had something very similar on the menu. We LOVED it. We were staying nearby for a few weeks so we went back often just to have what we called at the time ‘purple drink.’ When we returned from our trip, needless to say we tried our best to recreate the deliciousness of ‘purple drink’ and two years later we are still both making it frequently, with no sign of getting bored of it.

I often get asked what my favorite protein powder is, it’s NOW Sports Nutrition, Pea Protein. I just love it because it is just the pea protein isolate with no other added ingredients. So many powders have so many crappy chemicals in them that aren’t good for you, but thats not the case with this one. The taste is good, I always add it to other plant based ingredients such as this smoothie or a green smoothie.

Substitutions

There are A LOT of variations or additions you can put on this to give it your twist.

Firstly, instead of adding blueberries, you can consider using mixed berries. I often do this, it’s frozen mixed bag of blackberries, blueberries and raspberries.

Instead of protein powder, you could also try adding shelled hemp instead. This would give the protein in a totally plant-based natural form instead of in a powder form.

Other additions you might want to consider are cacao, coconut and/or different nuts for the toppings.

I often use oat milk as this is the most environmentally friendly, but it also works well with almond or cashew milk.

Top Tip

Make and serve immediately, while it’s still fresh. If you make this one overnight or leave it too long it tends to separate. Avocado also isn’t great if left to oxidise before being consumed.
