Eating predominately plant-based whole foods over meat and dairy, whether just going part-time vegan or the whole hog, is one of the most ridiculously POWERFUL things that you will EVER do for your health over your entire lifetime.
Let’s take me in 2015 for example.
My lovely fitness-fanatic friend Emma just made a comment in passing, that “70% of cancer and diseases originates from eating meat and dairy.”
I just slowly muttered out “What?” I’d go as far to say, I was STUNNED.
My head started spinning. I had SO MANY questions. Where should I start?
I sat down and looked at my plate of chicken stir fry. I had made it for dinner.
It wasn’t that it didn’t taste good, in fact, it tasted AMAZING. It was one of my all-time favorite go-to meals that I look forward to.
But, the question dawned on me, ‘was it as good for me as I had first thought?’
That was it, right there. It was a wake-up call. Sometimes in life you have those MOMENTS where everything changes.
I embarked on a deep and windy road of discovery through the internet. I soon realized that there were several reliable studies to back up Emma’s comment, but there was more. SO MUCH MORE.
I discovered that eating plant-based foods significantly lowers your blood pressure, reduces your chances of cancer, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. It’s also much better for your digestion and to have a ‘happier’ less-inflamed gut.
It was even much easier to drop a few pounds of weight if I wanted to, just by eating more plants. ‘Dr Google’ said that my energy levels and sleep may also improve.
I swiftly realized, what I still believe now, that as a species, we NEED to all eat more plant-based whole foods over animal products.
After this epiphany, I was completely shook for months. I was truly very upset. I felt mislead.
Even though I thought I had been eating a relatively healthy diet, with mostly lean meats, fish and vegetables, I felt as if I had been ‘asleep’ the entire time.
I grew up in Exeter in England, surrounded by rolling hills of beautiful countryside, farms and animals looking content. My impression of it all was skewed.
Of all that I read back in 2015, I was most upset about the mistreatment of livestock animals and that I had endorsed such a barbaric and scaled-up industry.
I’m a big ‘animal person.’ After researching, I quickly put it together that we are abusing our power over these sentient beings.
I also realized we are rapidly burning our own beautiful biodiverse planet to the ground, at the same time as potentially compromising our own health and long term well-being.
It’s a trifecta of f*ked up. (Sorry for the language but sometimes you need it to make the point).
I had this sudden surge of motivation to change-up my diet.
But, I had no idea how…
Unfortunately, I had a fridge full of meat, cheese and eggs.
There is SO MUCH conflicting information online on diet and nutrition, it’s tough to read between the lines. No wonder it’s hard to figure out!
It feels like the internet is deliberately trying to confuse me sometimes, do you find that?
It’s really not just about swapping out meat for a cup of black beans.
You have to know your macronutrient levels of carbs, protein and good fats. Including, knowing exactly how much of what foods to eat, all to be able to go plant-based in an informed, HEALTHY way.
Are you bouncing between websites and using that google machine and still thinking WTF?
That was me previously, so I feel your pain. In a hot minute, I transformed my life around to eating a whole foods plant-based diet.
One thing I found when I was researching, was that I was jumping between many websites to get the different information I needed.
That’s why I made this website, i love plants, to make your journey into eating more plant-based whole foods easy and delicious.

I am English and have been living in Alberta, Canada for four years with my lovely Canadian husband Brad. We met in in Costa Rica in 2017 in a bar. Shots were aplenty, and now cut to the present day and I seem to be living in a place that gets to -40 some days – not sure how that happened as I love the heat.
Now we are married, raising a puppy and a baby together, settled, living in the Canadian Rockies. That’s the short version of it, but I really don’t want to bore you with more!
We both LOVE being totally plant-based.
Here are some pics, including one of my fluffy Elroy. Don’t be fooled by those puppy dog eyes. He is as rambunctious as he is cute! He is sweet natured though and he makes me laugh several times a day. I always say ‘This is Elroy’s world, I just live in it.’ Do you have a pet you feel like that with too?
